How detailing became a craft of its own
From simple wash routines to a more considered approach to paint and materials.
From clean to considered
Looking after a car has always involved removing dirt and protecting exposed surfaces. Modern detailing places more emphasis on understanding materials, inspecting the finish and choosing a repeatable process.
A closer look at paint
Paint systems vary between vehicles and repairs. Rather than treating every car in the same way, a careful detail starts with assessment, measurement where appropriate and a test section before more involved polishing.
Tools support judgement
Machine polishers, dedicated lighting and purpose-made towels help a technician work consistently. They do not replace a good assessment of the surface or make an aggressive process suitable for every finish.
Maintenance still matters
Whatever protection is chosen, safe regular washing remains central to preserving the result. The best routine is one that fits the vehicle, its environment and the owner’s available time.
These notes introduce general care principles. Follow the vehicle handbook and the instructions for the actual products and equipment you use.
