Ceramic coating, without the mythology
What preparation, application and ongoing maintenance really involve.
Start beneath the coating
A coating will not hide every defect underneath it. Washing, decontamination and appropriate paint refinement establish the surface before application. Preparation should suit the condition of the car.
Understand the purpose
A compatible coating can change surface behaviour and help with maintenance. The visible result depends on the finish beneath it as well as the application. It is not a substitute for paint repair.
Respect application conditions
Temperature, humidity, levelling and cure time all matter. Product guidance should determine how the coating is applied and when the vehicle can return to normal use.
Keep looking after it
Coated cars still need gentle washing and periodic assessment. Avoid claims that a coating makes a car scratch-proof or removes the need for care. A clear maintenance plan is part of the process.
These notes introduce general care principles. Follow the vehicle handbook and the instructions for the actual products and equipment you use.
